Ron Rash was born September 25, 1953. He is an American poet, short story writer and novelist, is the Parris Distinguished Professor in Appalachian Cultural Studies at Western Carolina University. He is the author of three collections of poems, five collections of short stories including Incandescences and four other novels – all winners of important literary awards (Sherwood Anderson Prize, O. Henry Prize, James Still Award). The Cove received the Grand Prize of crime literature.
