About her
Born in 1920 Phyllis Dorothy James had a position as a civil servant within the criminal section of the Home Office before dedicating herself to writing. Mixing British understatement and sadism, social analysis and humour, her novels earned her the title of ‘new queen of crime’. Her last novel Death Comes to Pemberley was translated in February 2012 by Fayard.
